Brief Bio :

Sangram Keshari Samal received his PhD degree in “Biomaterials” from the School of Biomolecular Science, University of Pisa, Italy in 2009. His PhD research performed at BIOlabs, University of Pisa, Italy under the supervision of Prof. Emo Chiellini and Prof. David L. Kaplan. During his PhD, he was a visiting fellow at BWH, HST-MIT, Harvard Medical School and Tufts University, USA. He undertook his first post-doctoral research on magnetic biomaterials for bone regeneration at Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Bologna, Italy. In 2011 he moved Ghent Department of Organic Chemistry, University of Ghent, Belgium. Again, in 2014 he pursued his research activity at Laboratory of General Biochemistry and Physical Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Science, University Ghent, Belgium. His research interest is mainly focused on functionalization of polymers, designing of nano-biomaterials, cell therapy, vapor nanobubbles and bioimaging for various therapeutic applications. He has published several peer reviewed research articles, patents, book chapters and edited a book. He has own very prestigious Ramanujan Fellowship under engineering stream and pursing his research at Materials Research Centre, Indian Institute of Science.

Research Interests :

  • Injectable hydrogels for tissue engineering and localized drug delivery applications
  • Stability of drug delivery system in extracellular medium: This research involves the study on stability and release efficacy of different drug delivery systems in extracellular medium by SPT analysis
  • Responsive nanocarriers for targeted controlled delivery and bioimaging applications. The research involves designing of responsive nanocarriers conjugated with drug or other biomolecule for cellular uptake and release. In addition, injected systems are being developed by using silk protein or other thermoresponsive polymers. The injectable system will be utilized to transport the nanocarrier loaded drug to the targeted site and control the release via laser pulse or by degradation of polymer backbone
  • Labeling of live cells for bioimaging applications Development of new methods for intracellular delivery and site specific targeting of organic fluorophores into living cells by different advanced techniques
  • Functionalized nanographene for controlled targeted delivery and bioimaging Nanographene functionalized with hydrophobic aromatic drugs and organic fluorophores for controlled targeted delivery and bioimaging applications
